What is the best type of résumé?
There are 2 main types of résumé: chronological and functional.

Chronological résumés are used most often because they present your work history in the easiest to follow format. Most companies prefer this style because they can quickly confirm that your career has included positions with increasing responsibilities supported by your accomplishments.

Functional résumés highlight your skills while still presenting your work history. This is a particularly effective format when you are more interested in showcasing your significant (and transferable) skills especially if you are looking to change careers.
What is networking?
Networking is building relationships. It's sharing information that will help another person. Many people network without realizing that's what they're doing. For instance, quite often, before an individual contacts a service provider, they'll call a friend and ask for a referral. That's a form of networking - looking for someone you trust to give you valuable information.

Networking is one of the keys to a successful career. Maintaining contact with former colleagues, classmates and friends is critical especially in a difficult job market. In some cases, it's not just "what you know" but "who you know" that makes the difference in landing an opportunity.
Isn't it possible to conduct an effective job search with just a résumé and a telephone?
Today's highly competitive job market requires many more "tools" and strategies than a résumé and phone can provide.

Networking is one key strategy in an effective job search. It improves your visibility; ensures more people know you and what makes you special and, in many instances, provides opportunities for learning about organizations and positions you might previously have missed.
